Carcass of a lamb that was killed by a wolf the day before on the Plateau de Longon, in the Moyenne Tinée region of the Mercantour National Park, French Alps, France, 01 August 2013. A national park ranger or other mandated official must visit the site of each carcass to confirm it has definitely been killed by a wolf, and register it as a loss. For each lamb lost in a wolf attack, Bernard receives 90 € in compensation from the French government [160 € in the case of a ewe, with an additional 40€ if she was suckling a lamb].
