Bernard Bruno and his sheepdogs walk amongst his flock of sheep grazing on the mountain slopes above the Plateau de Longon, in the Moyenne Tinée region of the Mercantour National Park, French Alps, France, 01 August 2013. Sheepdogs and 'Patou' [Great Pyrenees sheepdog] have very different functions: the sheepdogs stay with the shepherd and are used to work the sheep when the flock is moved to the pastures during transhumance or to bring the flock down to the enclosure for the night. The Patou dogs stay constantly with the flock and their function is to protect the sheep from wolf attacks.
