Beekeeper Amanda Dowd cuts a rack out from the hive where she discovered that all the honeybees inside had died during the winter, Pont du Loup, Alpes Maritimes, France, 18 February 2014. The bees cannot have died of starvation as there were considerable food stores (pollen and honey) in the racks. A little mold on the inside walls indicated that they died due to accidental exposure to rain when a fierce storm blew the cover off the hive.
