Saffron Harvest

Returning to the farm after the day's saffron harvest, La Ferme Lavancia, Puget-Théniers, France, 25 October 2013. Saffron plants deplete the soil of nutrients quickly: after 4-5 years of saffron production, land needs to be left or other crops grown for 7-8 years for the soil to regain its balance before saffron can again be produced in the same place.
